It’s that time of the week again for the Flower Fairies card of the week! And this week it is…..Dance!!! Yippee!! Just so you get an image in your mind, I’m sitting here typing away and be-bopping in my chair to my 80’s jam on iTunes. How did I not know about iTunes years ago??? Probably because I just bought my first ever computer like four months ago and I’m still technology stunted in my growth. So Eric Carmen is telling me to turn the radio up and lose control, what a cool lead into the dance card! And I haven’t had a TV in 15 years, but this card is also a tribute to my favorite show–Dancing with the Stars which starts tonight! Yeah!!!
As a little girl, I always wanted to take dance lessons. I used to make up designs for my room and attempted to talk my mom into letting me tear up the carpet and make the one corner of my room a dance studio. She wasn’t buying it. I used to spend countless hours dancing my heart out in my room– I can’t believe I’m the only one who listens to a song over and over and over ad nauseam?!? Of course back in the day, it was timely to rewind cassette tapes–I truly think it was a stroke of genius whoever invented the repeat button! My lovely sisters enjoy sharing the story of wanting to watch me dance, and when I said no, unbeknownst to me, decided to venture outside one evening and watch me through the window. I was channeling my inner Michael Jackson, complete with the white sparkly glove, flipping my hat around, and doing the moon walk. When I came out to get some water, the whole family was laughing hysterically, and it took them awhile before they could even get out what was so funny. I didn’t find it anywhere as amusing as they did. And they still find it hysterical 30 some years later!
Fast forward fifteen years, and I was done with college and venturing into the career world, and was determined to take dance lessons. I started with ballet. Much to my delight, my instructor questioned why I hadn’t been taking dance my entire life because I had “wonderful muscle memory”. I couldn’t wait to tell the parentals that one! I enjoyed the ballet, however, I wanted to move! At a parade one afternoon shortly thereafter, I was mesmerized by a troupe of belly dancers. That’s what I wanted to do! That was 16 years ago. I now have a closet full of costumes and veils, and two dresser drawers full of embellishments. Oh my, is it FUN!!! How can you go wrong playing dress up, and dancing up a storm?!? Turn up the tunes and shake your booty–get up and DANCE!!! And Dancing with the Stars–I am ready to go for Season 26!!!
