Good morning! It’s the time of the week for the next Flower Fairy reveal! This week….drum roll please…it’s Hope! As I’m sitting here with the sun shining brightly and realizing we made it through February, life just feels good! I’ve been walking around with that silly grin on my face, you know the one that causes people to ask me what I’m up to, or they just grin back at me. I love it! This is my favorite time of the year, when everything is coming out of the winter thaw and life just emerges. Until I see the squirrels sitting out on my tree and staring in my house. Funny story–in 2016, my Christmas tree was nestled in the corner of my living room. A black squirrel would sit in the tree outside my window and just stare at the lights. It didn’t matter if the critters would sit in the window, this black squirrel was focused! I think she was meditating…So fast forward a month, and I started hearing scratching in the attic. When my alarm clock would go off in the morning, I’d hear this squirrel get up and leave, and there would be this little whimpering right above my bed. Babies! Too funny, because in feng shui, you are to put a piece of red fabric under your mattress if you want to draw in more romantic endeavors in the bedroom if you know what I mean. Ha, glad the feng shui worked for someone! The exterminator shows up and gets all excited because he’s never gotten so close to a nest of baby squirrels before, telling me that they must feel safe. He was so excited and told me I made his day. Yes, but I’m still writing you a check and the squirrels are still in my attic. And great, I have a freaking safe house for squirrels! Since, my options were closing up the holes and trapping the babies in the attic, or waiting a month til they grew up and left the nest, I chose option B. This squirrel apparently bonded with me, because at times I would walk through my house and she would follow me in the attic and squirrel talk with me. It was quite funny. My contractor came a month later and fixed all my holes and told me I was good to go. Yeah! No more squirrels! Until two weeks later, I was laying in bed, and the scratching started up in the attic. What the…!!!! We’ve now graduated to hiring critter specialists that specialize in capturing nuisance pets. Hmmm…I wonder if my cats will be safe??? Tehehe! Their first recommendation is for me to remove trees along the side of my house. Well, there goes another couple of hundred bucks. Next, they set traps, only to be perturbed that the squirrels were hanging in the attic when they went up there and after two weeks, managed to avoid the traps. Seriously?!?! So, we advanced to motion sensor cameras. For some reason the Mission Impossible music is playing in my head. Finally, FINALLY, every squirrel door has been patched and sealed! Jeez Louise! And now, I have a woodpecker who’s decided that my house is a tasty morsel. Grrrr….
